Professor Jeff Nunokawa has taught in the English Department at Princeton since 1988. His specialty is the Victorian novel, and he takes particular joy in teaching undergraduates. (He's in the midst now of writing a book about social engagement and disengagement in English novels of the nineteenth century and he regularly teaches a course on works ranging from Jane Austen to Thomas Hardy.) This is his second year as Master of Rockefeller, and he wants to be doing all he can to help foster a sense of community in the college. In addition to the books he studies and teaches (his first love), he is devoted to film and music--all kinds of film and all kinds of music--from post war Japanese Film to The Bourne Ultimatum; from The Magic Flute to Belle & Sebastian and The Mountain Goats. (He will even admit to a soft spot for Coldplay.) Warning: don't get him started on the subject of Henry James and his relevance to all parts of human existence, unless you have several hours of free time on your hands. He enjoys nothing more than a meal and a laugh or two, or ten, with a group of undergraduates (ask around and see if this isn't true). He's looking forward to meeting all of you. |

Greetings Rockyites! I am in my fourth year as Dean of Rocky, but I have a long association with Princeton, since I came here in 1992. I was an Assistant Professor in the Politics Department for nine years and the Director of Studies at Forbes College for four years, before coming to Rocky. I grew up in Queens, NY, got my undergraduate degree from Williams, and received my Ph.D. from Yale. My specialty is contemporary political theory; I am currently writing a book about the idea of inheritance in Western political thought. My wife, Nicky, was born in England, worked as a costume and textile curator at the MFA in Boston, and is now a bibliographer in the Marquand Art Library. You will see my 12 year old often in the dining hall in the coming year. His name is Darius and he loves car racing, bicycle racing, photography, and chatting with friends online. I watch a lot of films, dabble in collecting music from different parts of the world, and can be obsessive about road biking, both as a sport and my only form of exercise. And I’m sure I will enjoy meeting all of you soon! |

As your Director of Studies, I’ll advise you about your classes, major, and academic support, and I’ll be glad to talk with you about other issues as well. Before becoming Director of Studies, I was a Rocky Fellow and Academic Adviser, and I taught five generations of Rocky students as a member of the Writing Program faculty, where I led seminars like “Modern Memory” and “Literature Between the Wars.” My PhD is from Princeton in Comparative Literature; my scholarly interests include Russian and British novels and the relationship between literature and ethical/philosophical ideas. I grew up in Ohio and went to college at the University of Chicago. You’ll often see my family around Rocky: my husband, Grady, has published a series of graphic novels, and is an avid player of Ultimate Frisbee: he’ll be glad to tell you about the local pick-up games. I have two sons: Liam is five, and is interested in baseball and animals, and loves the frozen-yogurt machine at Rocky! Baby Benjamin was born in June, 2009. We spend a lot of time at the playground, but I also enjoy movies, cooking for friends, and going in to New York and Philly. I’m looking forward to working with all of you.

Welcome to Princeton! As your Director of Student Life (DSL), I am the primary point person in the office for virtually all non-academic issues Rocky residents might encounter throughout the year – both positive, as well as those that might be a bit more challenging. To that end, I am Rocky’s official liaison between students and the numerous support services Princeton has to offer including: medical services (UHS); counseling services (CPS); and on-campus Public Safety (DPS). I also work directly with your RCAs to ensure that your residential experience is enriching, enjoyable, safe and respectful.
My background includes student affairs administration, advising and teaching; as I have worked in similar positions at Penn, Fordham (where I earned my MS.Ed. in Counseling) and, just prior to arriving at Princeton in 2007, Friends Seminary in Manhattan. I have also enjoyed previous roles as a head and assistant coach (both tennis and soccer) and a member of Actors Equity. Working closely with young adults has long been a priority in my life, and I look forward to assisting you in any way I can as you navigate the waters of the Princeton experience. Expect to see me regularly outside of the office – especially at varsity games (all seasons!), theatrical and musical performances. In the meantime, don’t ever hesitate to stop by… whether you’ve got something you need to discuss, or just to say “hey.” Bonus points for any fans of Lizz Wright, Fringe or Manchester United! |

This is my third year working at Rocky College. You can find me at my desk in the Rocky Office on the 1st floor, from 1pm – 5pm, making appointments for students, facilities (keys) as well as assisting with events at the College. Feel free to pop in with any questions you may have. I am originally from New York, where I still spend summers at the beach in Montauk. I live in Skillman (5 miles NW of Princeton) with my husband, 3 children (2 away in College) and two dogs. When I am not here working, you can find me taking yoga classes, gardening, reading and traveling. Stop in and say hi, I always have a full candy dish on my desk! |
